I’m very pleased to be nominating myself for trip secretary!
Who am I?

• I’m currently working, based in Cheshire, and will be heading into my 3rd year of my Biochemistry course next year.
• Joined the club in 2021 and have been a member since
• Known for an irrational obsession with climbing to the top of big hills
• In my spare time, an Explorer Scout leader at 1st Mobberley
Why choose me?
• As highlighted by the nature of my course, I am detail-oriented and highly organised. I enjoy a process based, problem solving approach. I believe this skill will prove valuable as trip sec.

• I have been lucky enough to hike all over the UK; with Cheshire Scouts Mountain Team, my family and LUUHC. I was recently awarded a T2 permit (the scout version of an Mountain Leader qualification) and aim to get my ML qualification by the end of 2025. This knowledge will be useful in decisions on trip location.


• As a scout leader, I attend regular meetings at my group. To ensure term runs smoothly we have leader meetings; to discuss session plans, ideas about activities and review any issues that have arisen. This experience of being on a committee as a team member I believe will prove invaluable for this role.

• Experience. From attending many-a-club trip I have seen the level of detail of planning and execution goes into running our trips. For me the trips are where the magic happens, and next year I would love the opportunity to give my experience into the planning and running of some epic, epic club trips.

• Having spoken with the current trip sec, Tom, who has helped make for some awesome trips so far this year, I fully understand the responsibility of this role and am ready to meet it fully.

Throughout my time with the club, I have been fortunate to be involved in some pretty epic trips and hikes. These experiences have been some of the highlights of my time in Leeds, and were made possible by the hard work that goes on behind the scenes from the various committees. I want the opportunity to put my experience and knowledge to best use in my final year by being a part of next year’s committee as trip secretary.

Hi all! I’m Seb and I’m running for Trip Sec this year! I’m a third-year automotive engineering student and although I only joined the club in October 2023, I’ve had such a great time and been on some really memorable trips already – thanks everyone for making me feel so welcome so quickly!
Why am I running for trip sec? Well, there’s no easy way of saying this but secretly I’m a recreational planner. Not in a weird doomsday way, I just really enjoy planning trips, almost as much as I enjoy going on them (It’s very close-run thing). My laptop is bloated with lovingly crafted plans on PowerPoints and spreadsheets for hiking trips I’ve been on / will get around to one day. I’d love to be able to share these with the club! While on placement I managed to complete three national trails with my friends, as well as countless other big days out locally and further afield. By the end of the year the ‘seb planned’ stamp of approval carried the same weight as you might give a michelin star or an aldi specially selected, lofty praise indeed I’m sure you’ll agree.
I’m aware of how big a task being trip sec is, and whoever gets elected for the role needs to be super committed and even more enthusiastic, qualities we can all agree Tom had in buckets this year. For my part, I spent almost every minute of the trips I’ve been on this year with a big schoolboy grin on my face, you can be sure I’ll be doing my best to make sure the trips next year are just as epic! From a more practical stance, I’ve got experience in a similar role from my placement year. I was the social sec for 50 other interns at the factory, organising weekly socials and running our football club, all alongside my day job and walking shenanigans. The active and involved nature of being trip sec does not phase me at all, and in truth, I’ve missed the excitement a bit.
The thing I love most about this club alongside how friendly and inclusive it is, is how well everyone knows their stuff. Between us we probably represent the greatest encyclopaedia of hiking knowledge in Yorkshire, and it would be silly of me to not make the most of it. As trip sec, I’d like to take maximal input from the club for trip locations.
I could bore you with more stories about planning trips as a scout leader, or the fun I have doing the admin for my annual football sweepstake, but that’s about as interesting as it sounds. Enjoy the AGM and I’m looking forward to next year whatever happens!
