Hi everyone, for those of you who doesn’t know me yet my name is Bryn. I am a chemical engineering student currently in my 3rd year and have been a member of the hiking club for the past 2 years. During my time as a member of the club I have become a more and more active member going on more trips and Sunday hikes as well as becoming a driver and leader this year. A place you will have always seen me however is at the weekly socials which have been such an amazing part of my club experience and where I have met some amazing friends at both the Eldon and library pub socials. The club has been such an amazing part of my university life and some of the most fun I’ve had in my whole time at university, and the chance to be a part of committee would be a great way to give back to the club.

My goal as social secretary is simple, to continue the great work of the previous social secs who have made the hiking society such a welcoming and fun club to be a part of. As part of this I have some ideas of what I would like to do with the role. Aside from the classic social events such as Fridge to Fridge and the annual Otley run, I would also like to run some more laid back, relaxed socials with less of a focus on drinking in more relaxed settings.

• continue the current Thursday library socials

• try to secure a club deal for non alcoholic drinks at socials

• Incorporate different styles of social into the year, board games nights, movie nights etc.

• Look at potentially running events with other outdoor societies

Ultimately as social secretary I want to give every club member the same friendly, kind, and welcoming atmosphere I felt from the very first social I attended. Also, I was Socialite of the year this year which I am very proud of, and I think shows my constant dedication to the social side of the club.
