Hi, my name is Hannah, and I am currently in my 3rd year. I have been interested in psychiatry since secondary school, and it is actually what encouraged me to apply to medical school!

I have been on the psyched committee for the past year and have been a member since my first year. Over this time, I have had the opportunity to get involved in some of the great events that the society has offered. This has inspired me to apply for president, to have a bigger role in organising and over-seeing these events.

As president, I would like to continue the amazing events that have been successfully carried out by the previous committees, such as med-fest and film nights! I would also love to continue the mentorship scheme, as I think it is a great opportunity to get an insight into psychiatry. I also believe that research is important to enhance a medical student’s CV. Therefore, I aim to liaise with psychiatrists involved in research, to offer medical students a chance to get more involved. Furthermore, I aim to offer revision sessions closer to exams. These might include things like mental health core conditions teaching, mental-health history taking practice, and mental state examination teaching.

Being on the psyched committee for the past three years has really helped me understand how the society runs and how to best improve the introduction to psychiatry at university. It has also motivated me to take on a bigger responsibility and apply to be president. As your future president, I look forward to bringing new events to the society, such as mental health podcasts and mental health debate sessions. Additionally, I aim to help the already established schemes flourish.
