Hi, it’s me Monty, and it’s the time of the year where I run for vice president.
As most of you know I am a keen member of the society, regularly attending every Packhorse Wednesday and as many of the other events that I possibly can. This I believe is one of the vital aspects of the role of vice president as demonstrated by Rhys this year, always present as a friendly face to talk to and is something I would love to continue doing. LUUMC this year has been such a friendly and inviting space and has allowed me to meet new friends who share my love for climbing as much as I do. This has allowed me to venture into the world of outdoor climbing which has quickly become my favourite thing to do. However, from this I also see there are barriers for newer climbers who want to experience outdoor climbing as the society doesn’t regularly offer much in this department. As well as my expected jobs as vice president I hope to take a role in helping the trip sec to organise more day trips to local crags like Almscliffe and Caley and potentially an international trip.

And of course, I absolutely love belaying gumbies on a Wednesday.

I've been an active member of the club for the last year and am super passionate about climbing! This years committee have done such a good job at getting so many people so psyched for climbing and the club does such a great job at introducing people with an interest in the outdoors. Before uni I'd done a lot of sport climbing, but the club has helped me gain competency in trad - I firmly believe in the club giving people that opportunity to safely learn those mountaineering skills.
As vice president I will push to bring more mountaineering to the club and want to inspire even more people to try the sport. I am really organised and outgoing, and love meeting new people. I hope these skills will enable me to be a friendly face to new-comers and will enable me to ensure we continue to offer varied and exciting events in the coming year!

Hi, I’m Alex and I’m running for Vice President this year. Climbing has always been a big part of my life and the society has allowed me to meet some fantastic people who share my passion for the sport. LUUMC is such a great atmosphere for people who have always climbed but as well as people who have never stepped foot on the rock before and I want to continue this, by being a friendly face to the society. As a lot of you know, I love to have a tea break after just a few climbs so I will have plenty of time to chat with new people and be encouraging and helpful to new people who may be nervous about climbing or just have general queries. When it comes to the merch, I will continue the yearly logo competition to allow people to share their amazing designs and aim to get the items of clothing as cheap as possible for people. Next year, alongside other committee members I want to continue to bring together people who share a love for climbing and the outdoors. Lots of love, from your favourite lazy climber.
