I am a 3rd year Classical Literature and English student, and this will be my second year as a member of the Classics society. I have always had a passion for history, which culminated in my study of Ancient History at A level. I loved it, and thus at university felt I had to continue in some way, even if it meant a joint honors degree, which I now love! I am a keen advocate for kindness and equality, it being my central morality system, and, honestly, I think this makes me perfect for this role. I aim to bring this passion into the society and ensure that it is a safe and comfortable environment for everyone. I want to be a friendly face that people feel they can approach with any issues or worries and help to bridge the gap between student and university. Like most of us, I love mythology, in any form really, and this is a key hobby of the Classics society. You may wonder why I mention this, but if anyone feels nervous to talk to me about anything they are struggling with, this is a good conversation starter to ease yourself into sharing. I think this is a very important role due to the lack of mental health support provided both in the university and UK, and hope that my taking this role will help people feel they have a figure they can approach freely with any problems and who can put them in touch with student services. Classics has been a vessel for me to make friends and have fun whilst at university, especially through a few rough years, and I aim to help others have the same experience! Through supporting other committee members, I also would like to encourage activities which explore further diversity of antiquity, looking at other cultures such as ancient Persia, ancient China, Ancient Africa, such as Carthage and Egypt, etc. rather than just the Eurocentric Greece and Rome. I hope my little manifesto is enough to encourage you to vote for me! Thank you for reading!

I’m running for Welfare officer this year as I believe my prior experience in the LUU as Quidditch/Quadball President and Engsoc Treasurer can be of great use in supporting our members and committee. I’m currently doing a research masters in classical literature and I also have extensive knowledge of the LUU and university pastoral and welfare systems from my time as Learning Community Intern for the school of English.
