Hi Everyone! I'm Gurleen and I'm running for Co-Secretary with Katherine :)

As co-founders of the society, we are very passionate about bringing more exposure for BSL and we think it's really important to spread awareness. Going on from our role as secretaries from last year, we are all very comfortable with the tasks involve and know strongly what the role entails as well has how to distribute the workload evenly and help support our committee.

It's been absolutely amazing to see the society grow and flourish over the past year and we can't thank you enough for all the support! And we can't wait to see what comes next year!

Hi everyone, my name is Katherine and I’m running for Co-secretary of BSL Society this year alongside Gurleen!

You might recognize me from our events - I’ve had the privilege of working as Co-Secretary this year, assisting with the teaching and organizing of events, getting involved in our sign-of-the week posts as well as taking those all-important meeting minutes for the Committee. I have absolutely loved being part of BSL Society and witnessing how it has grown – we’ve come on leaps and bounds this year, having been nominated for 6 Riley Awards!

Going forward as BSL’s Co-secretary I am keen to bring all of the skills I have developed through this experience to continue to run engaging events for you and competently manage the inner-workings/admin side of the society. I am also passionate about further growing the sense of community among our members, through running ‘games nights’ to provide a fun, interactive way of practicing new signs, as well as organising more society social events and keeping up the welcoming environment of our BSL cafes. I hope to continue to provide a friendly, supportive face at our weekly teaching sessions whom you all feel comfortable asking for clarification and practicing signs with!

Working with the rest of committee, I am also really excited about pushing for Signature-accredited level 1 & 2 courses and our developing collaboration with the Language Zone. I intend to work alongside our outreach officer to strive to get BSL more integrated into University life here at Leeds and to continue to promote deaf awareness and culture. Our many collaborations have also been a big success and these are something I am eager to continue to based upon members interests.

As your Co-Secretaries, Gurleen and I will be guided by your feedback, continuing to implement the post-event QR codes so we can continue to improve our events and make them as engaging and fun as possible!
