Hi Everyone! It is officially Welcome Week!

All of us on the committee would like to offer a warm welcome to new and old members of the club! If you are a newbie, below is a little more info about what to expect from the club throughout the year, and throughout welcome week:

***What we do***

At LUUHC the outdoors is our passion and enabling you to explore it is our aim. Whether you enjoy a gentle stroll in the Yorkshire Dales, a demanding scramble along a Lakeland ridge or a winter epic in the Scottish Highlands, there is something for everyone. As an incredibly active club, we provide opportunities for you to leave the city behind and embrace the great outdoors!

Here is what you can expect from LUUHC this week. We look forward to seeing some new faces:

***Welcome Stall***

Tuesday 21st September 10am-4pm (in the Edge sports hall)

Here is the event link: https://fb.me/e/15npFNCEj

Remember 10am-11am is an accessibility hour! Here you can meet some members of the new committee members and ask any questions you may have about the club including about gear, socials and trips! No question is too big or too small! We are all happy to help in any way that we can.

***Welcome Talk***

Thursday 23rd September at 6:30pm (Sadly Online)

Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to move the welcome talk to online. We’re still hoping to see as many of you there as possible! Our Committee will be there to introduce ourselves and show you all the wonderful things the club does, such as information about trips, gear and socials, as well as answer any questions you may have.

Meeting ID: 879 0016 5258

Passcode: uC1@&j

This will be followed by an in person social in our usual pub the Eldon (near the main university campus) where we have socials every Thursday night. They usually occur in the Eldon but our lovely social secretary also has some fantastic socials in the works for the upcoming term, including things like go-karting and ice skating so watch this space!

***The first Sunday hike***

Sunday 26th September

Tickets are up on TODAY AT 8PM. This hike will be to Malham, and tickets include transportation from Leeds and back! Follow this link to see some photos from previous Sunday hikes! http://www.luuhc.com/sunday-hikes-1

If you don’t manage to get a ticket for the hike, email secretary@luuhc.com to be put on a waiting list - we’ll let you know before Sunday if you have a place!

Sunday hikes are suitable for all hiking abilities and are a great way to meet new friends and really get involved with the club. They run nearly every Sunday during term time, so if you can’t make it this weekend there are plenty more opportunities to become a regular! See below for some frequently asked questions, and some useful links for more Sunday hike info!

FAQs about Sunday hikes:

Q: Do I need a membership to attend? A: Yes.

Q: How do I get membership? A: Right here! https://engage.luu.org.uk/groups/GYC/hiking#memberships

Q: Do I have to be a student at the University of Leeds to have a membership? A: No, our memberships are open to anyone.

Q: How much do Sunday hikes cost? A: Hikes will cost ~£8-£12 depending on the location and includes transport.

Q: What gear do I need for a Sunday hike? A: http://www.luuhc.com/sunday-hikes Ankle support is necessary! You will not be able to come with us on Sunday if you do not have appropriate footwear, and we also do not allow jeans on the hike - walking trousers/leggings are ideal. Make sure you’re prepared for all weathers. It’s also important to bring plenty of food and water with you for the day. Email gear@luuhc.com with any questions you may have!

Q: Do Sunday hikes run every weekend? A: most of them during term time! And we even do weekend trips which you can see here https://www.luuhc.com/calendar.

Memberships to join the club are now available to buy on the Leeds University Union Website! A club membership is needed to come on all club trips. If you’re unsure about joining the club then we’ll be running a Give it a go event in the coming weeks where membership won’t be needed - keep your eyes on our social media pages for more details!

Unfortunately people who aren’t students at the University of Leeds are having trouble accessing the Union’s new website and therefore buying memberships and tickets - we’re working with them to get this sorted as quickly as possible for you!

***Social Media ***

Usually our website can answer most questions you may have about the club, but this time we encourage you to make your way down to our welcome talk and stall at the welcome fair and ask any queries you may have! Still check out our website though it's gorgeous.

A lot of LUUHC members do the parkrun in Woodhouse Moor most Saturdays! If you’re a runner / parkrunner, or interested, it’s at 9am and it’s free - you just need to sign up on the parkrun website and print off a barcade. Particularly lookout for social sec Sarah as she’s keen for a coffee afterwards!
