Want to provide great patient care, but also improve the care provided to the wider population? Want to LEAD, as well as contribute to a team? Then HIT Leeds is the society for you.
Whatever your career goal is, an effective healthcare professional, whether that be a doctor, nurse, physio or anything else, has to be an effective leader and manager- and we are here to help you become just that.
HIT Leeds is proud to be working in association with the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management (FMLM) which is the UK’s largest community of medical leaders and gives you an opportunity to shape the future of healthcare. We also have close links to HITNEY (HIT North East Yorkshire) who are the student society at HYMS.
We are also the local Chapter of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Open School, which brings together students from across the world through a shared interest in learning about quality improvement and improving care for patients.
Local Experience Network (LEN)
We are also establishing a Local Experience Network (LEN), which is a service offered to motivated and enthusiastic students wishing to gain experience in quality and service improvement (in primary & secondary care), as well as opportunities to shadow or work with current healthcare leaders (both clinicians and non-clinicians).
The events will be an excellent opportunity to meet like-minded students and start to develop a network of key clinicians in Leeds, Yorkshire and Humber and North of England that are committed to leading and managing healthcare services.
As a society our main focus is to provide students with an opportunity to learn about broader issues within the NHS and the growing importance of doctors leading and managing services and creating change that leads to improved health outcomes. We will be hosting monthly events to achieve this goal, in the forms of lectures, simulations, discussions, socials and other fun activities! Some of the key aspects of Medical Leadership and Management that we aim to address are:
- Improving patient safety
- Quality of care and value for money
- The importance of teamwork
- Giving you tools, techniques, methods and ideas that will be useful if you come across areas of clinical practice as a student or junior, newly-qualified professional that you want to improve
- Current issues and challenges in health policy and politics
