Welcome to Wilderness Medicine

LUU Wilderness Medicine is a fun and friendly society that welcomes everyone. Whether you are thinking about a career in wilderness medicine or just love roaming the outdoors and want to learn some new skills along the way, we hope you will come and join us!

What we do:

We focus on expedition medicine and pre-hospital care whilst out in the wild. We go on regular day trips to the Yorkshire Dales, as well as weekends away to various parts of the UK. While out-and-about we integrate medical scenarios into the day to teach you what to do if an injury occurs and you are miles away from a hospital, waiting for help to arrive.

We also have links with Holme Valley and Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Teams, who have run brilliant sessions with us in the past. We are planning more of this for you Wildlings in the upcoming year.

Socials:

Our day trips are a great opportunity to have a laugh with like-minded people and make new friends. We also have an annual Christmas dinner, collaborations with Leeds Community First Responders and many more announced on our Facebook page.

Trips:

We go on regular day trips to some stunning places around Leeds such as the Yorkshire Dales and Peak District, as well as weekends away which take you all over the country. In the past we have visited Northumberland, the North York Moors, Snowdonia and many more.

These events are not to be missed, so keep an eye on our Facebook page or contact the committee for more details.

Membership:

Membership is £15.50 for the academic year.

=> This includes £3.50 personal liability insurance required by Leeds University Union for ‘high risk’ societies. If you have already purchased this insurance for another LUU society, please get in touch with committee who can arrange membership without this additional charge.

All membership fees go towards keeping our equipment up-to-date and running our weekends away.

If you have any questions, please get in touch at wildernessmedicine@luu.group or on the Facebook group!
