TLDR (as personally, despite writing a long manifesto I hate reading large amounts of text)

Hey hey,



If you don’t know me by my proper name, you may know me better as ‘Gremlin’ or ‘the girl who nearly died on a club trip’.... To most of you, you’ll know me as just Emma. I’m usually the one talking a lot and staying up too late on club trips and then regretting it the next day!



Despite no longer being a student now, this will be my fourth year in the club and counting. I first joined when I first moved to Leeds to do my masters and since then have fallen in love with the city and club. The motto ‘LUUHC is life’ really does seem to resonate. Many of you will have seen me at most Thursday socials, Sunday hikes and every club trip this year which I think demonstrates both my love and commitment to the club and the people within it. The other being that I am writing this when I should really be doing the job I am being paid to do, sorry boss!



Ever since joining the club back in 2019 I’ve wanted to be part of the committee but due to a series of unfortunate events, such as having to leave Leeds after my degree finished and unsure if I would return, I have never had the opportunity. Until now! I have no plans of leaving either Leeds or the club anytime soon and now want to take my involvement in the club to a new level.



During my time in the club I have had many ideas of ways to improve the club (although it’s mostly perfect, let's be honest). Those who know me will know my masters was Climate Change and Environmental Policy and that sustainability is a big passion of mine. The biggest thing I would like to bring to the club this year is greater environmental impact awareness. According to our current constitution, under section 12 it reads: 12.1 The Club/Society will endeavour to respect the environment it travels to and minimise the environmental impact. Personally I believe we could strive for more in this area and think that the other committee members have enough on their plate and so someone on the general committee is perfect for this task. Some ideas I would like to bring forward are better recycling on club trips as 20+ people create a lot of waste (especially beer cans and bottles!!!!). I would also like to look into making the food on trips more sustainable such as looking into food miles on the products we choose and reducing the amount of red meat on the menu. I also want to do some research into if it's possible to make our travel to places less carbon intensive.



Alongside this, I will also help the club and the other committee members with their roles. If there’s one thing I’ve learnt about the club during my time is that there is A LOT of blood, sweat and tears that goes into making sure the club runs smoothly and so I want to do anything I can do to ease the stress of other committee members. Most importantly, I hope that I can pass some of what I’ve learnt during my time here to make sure the club continues to be as great as it already is.

Hi everyone! So, most of you probably won’t know me, but my name is Beca and I’m a second year student midwife. Although I haven’t been in the club for very long, it’s made a massive difference to my experience here at uni and I hope that by being on committee I can help others to feel as welcomed and included as I have by you lovely people. Hiking’s always been a big part of my life, growing up by the North York Moors, so I’m glad that I’ve been able to continue this on in Leeds and hopefully can help others do the same. Due to the nature of my course I’m always working with and dealing with lots of different people from lots of different backgrounds which has massively developed my team working and communication skills which I would be bringing to the committee. Also, a massive part of it is helping others, whether that be taking pressure off the other members of the committee as needed or helping out club members with any concerns they may have. I promise I would be a friendly face and a problem solver for the club. If you couldn’t tell, I love gabbing to people and I love the pub so I would be at the socials to greet members new and old. Finally, and most importantly, I make a great cup of tea (my patients can verify) so if you consider nothing else, at least consider the committee’s hydration levels during their weekly meetings. I think this is an amazing club and I’d love for the opportunity to get more involved and be able to give something back.
